Policy on Excused Absences


Students unable to attend classes due to certain reasons should submit leave form from 7 days prior to the day-off. Without approval, it would be regarded as an absence. The procedure cannot be supplemented after an absence. If it meets an emergent or unexpected condition, one should formally inform the chief of the department immediately and then complete the application on the next day; or the chief of the department could ask our administrative staff to assist our students, however, the relevant evidence documentation should be approved by the deputy chief and be sent to the medical education department within the next seven days (since the first day-off), otherwise, it would still be regarded as an absence.



1.Steps to take leave:
  • Leaves within two days (included) should be approved by the clinical teacher of the clinical training department.
  • Leaves above 2 days: It is necessary to obtain the consent of the clinical teach-er and fill out the supplemental plan. The plan is to be reviewed by the direc-tor of the training depart-ment and approved by the vice president of educa-tion.
2. Proof documents are required for public leave, sick leave, marriage leave, and funeral leave.

3. Students will be considered as “Absenteeism when meeting the following situ-ations, the highest grade of the training department is C+.
  • Leave-taking students without submission or approval shall all be regarded as absence.
  • Absent without excuse in the clerkship meeting or clinical skill class
4. Your leave hours is exceeded 1/3 training hours with your teacher cannot make up the class for you.
 
5. Makeup class
  1. If your leave hours exceed 1/3 training hours, you must make up the class. the highest score of makeup class will be C+.
  2. If you ask for a public leave, sick leave, and the leave hours exceed 1/3 training hours, you also should make up the class. But your grade is not limited to a maximum of C+.

6. Attendance and Grades
Attendance is one of the assessment tools in the grading scheme. It will adopt the rubric and depicted as follows.

An unexcused absence from the clinical training department is exceeding 4 days will be considered a failure to the current department.
